Western Screech Owl

Shed Simas

The western screech owl is one of the main reasons Woodhaven was made into a Nature Conservancy, and it is important to recognize its existence and remind people of its importance. In a manner similar to the Nazca drawings in Peru, Shed Simas carved a drawing of the western screech owl into the parking lot of Woodhaven prior to the Summer Open House on July 17th. Over time, the human traffic in the parking lot, both by car and on foot, has been gradually effacing the drawing, much like human activity and urban development reduced the owl populations.
